I'm changing my hair a bit, going from a regular pixie cut to an undercut: very short sides and back, longish on top. I now have a good start on an undercut, compliments of the talented Jade at Elysium Salon. Amazingly, a month later it still has a great shape! Seems I've found my new hairdresser. Here are my ideas for the undercut.
Image source, The Fashion SpotKate Lanphear's cut may be more dramatic than what I'll end up with, but I thought this was such a pretty photo. She manages to not appear too trendy with this hairstyle. And the great thing about an undercut is you can go as long on top as you want.
Image source, Tomboy-to-WomanI love this! Hers is about the length of mine so far. Seeing this photo, I was tempted to return to platinum blond, but...then I remembered the maintenance. I'm not going back there!
Image source, The Fashion SpotMore of Kate...This version is a bit longer underneath- more subtle. I'm definitely not doing the shaved thing.

sounds and looks exciting. can't wait to see the result on you. the last image of your hair inspiration looks really hot. also like the "more subtle" kate.
I especially like the last photo- it's definitely a bold look, but it'll be fascinating to see your take on it!
Also in relation to your last post, I love the idea of reupholstering the chair in teal velvet - I think the colour would contrast beautifully with the wood.

Oooooo, great photos. I am completely biased here, big Kate fan. I used her photo for my last haircut. The first photo is also terrific. Whichever style you choose it will look great on you!
ok, where is your photo?

chauss-
you'll see it in an upcoming outfit post. see my beach post for the windblown, post-haircut look (the beginnings of the undercut). :)
Ha! the first Kate Lanphear shot is exactly a haircut I had in high school. I used to do it myself with masking tape and a fancy arrangement of three mirrors, and wreck the blades in my dad's old-fashioned razor doing the shaving.
All these cuts are very mid-80s new wave...
I reckon you'll totally be able to work the under cut. My hair is in a sad state of disrepair at the moment..keep trying to man up and go for the chop but not quite sure I've got the bone structure to pull it off!

Compass Rose-
oh my, you were brave! i could never do my own. i'm all thumbs! yes, i think there's very much an 80s influence in these cuts- although they're softer now, not so geometric.
Ha ha! no, I was just poor. My punky friends all used to make trips to Toronto's House of Lords for their edgy hairstyle needs, but I didn't have that kind of cash. The average Ottawa stylist back then, on the other hand, would be challenged by a highlighted mushroom perm. So it was DIY or nothin'.
Your hair looks gorgeous in the next post. And I really like the Miss Sixty pants.
YES, YES and YES! i totally see you rocking this haircut.
I feel like an 80's girl... totally just got an undercut bowlcut with a clippered nape and sides. It is undercut about an inch higher than the bowl line which is just off the top of my ears. I bleached the top for a two tone thing. My friends are asking if I am getting my group Wilson Phillips back together.
Anon,
sounds like an awesome cut and color! if you have a photo or blog, let me know- i'd love to see the new hair. :)
Oh this is great, I was looking for reference photos to show my stylist and these are PERFECT! Thanks.
