No. 19 EDP, my new fragrance, purchased at La Baie near Mont-Royal in Montreal...
This scent, in this formulation, captured my heart.
I love the way it's been described on Yesterday's Perfume blog:
"Chanel No. 19 lurks quietly in dark woods."
"...poetic, beautiful, bewitching."
"In an interesting way, it's what Chanel No. 19 holds back — comforting sweetness, melody, and light — that is its virtue."

Oh how funny, I rediscovered this scent a few weeks ago and have been wearing it exclusively since (the original, not the new 'poudre' variant). It's WONDERFUL, isn't it??
i just got a sample with my recent chanel order... must try ! (right now i'm using No5)
Thanks for the link to my blog. I just recently won a vintage EDT Chanel No. 19 (my review was for the EDP). In some ways even more gorgeous. If you can score a little vintage mini, you should try it. The reformulated no. 19 is nice, but the vintage is heartbreakingly beautiful and complex — with salty vetiver and a subtle leather. Definitely influenced Ellen's Bulgari green tea perfume.
Anyway, beautiful blog!
Ellena, I mean!
deja pseu,
i'm pretty sure i've seen it on your blog. yes, it's absolutely wonderful. since i discovered the EPD in canada, it's all i've been wearing.
i tried a sample of poudre variant, and it didn't do much for me.
Divinitus,
i love no. 5 also. :)
Barbara,
lovely to get your comment, thank you for that info! it would be nice to find a vintage bottle of EDT or parfum (i've not smelled the parfum but i want to). must start checking ebay...
pure poetry!!
great post!
have you ever tired any of frederick malle's scents?
xo chauss

chauss,
no have not tried frederick malle's creations, but heard they are lovely.
Soccer Mom Style,
you are buying the EDP? do let me know what you think.
agh! one of my favorite scents!
oh, and girl! gimme some photography lessons!
Wasn't it you - when we first virtually met (i.e. before we actually met) who once wrote that you 'collected' scents? I think when you went to the mainland - Miami/Hollywood - from the Virgin Islands, you'd buy scents. I love the description, too - and the idea that it's not what you put into something (in this case, scent) but what you leave out.
That will be my thought for the day.
Edit, edit, edit! as the Foolish Aesthete's husband (and mine) would say. And I'll check out Barbara/Perfumaniac's blog - she sounds interesting. And nice.
And I want to also say: it is such a nice respite from the world, coming here. The photos you choose, the way you write: it is all so clean, serene, minimalist, and that same mixture of femininity/androgyny and yet - very nurturing and soothing. I can almost smell these scents.
polka dot,
i don't remember collecting scents, at least not on purpose. maybe it was shoes... ;)
i'm often on the hunt for a signature fragrance. one that's "me", one that i don't tire of after a few months. my affinity for no. 19 edp is going strong.
thank you for your kind words and lovely description of this blog. i appreciate it very much.
xoxo
