My current everyday makeup...very minimal. I use waterproof and long-wearing products to address concerns in a warm, humid climate. Removal is easy with grapeseed oil.

Chanel Inimitable Waterproof mascara in Noir, Stylo Yeux Waterproof eyeliner in Espresso (black has proven too harsh), Rouge Allure Velvet lip colour #37 (my new "red").

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original prevents mascara and eyeliner transfer.

MAC Prep + Prime prevents lipstick from feathering.

Per-fekt Eye Perfection Gel in Bright for reducing darkness under eyes and Skin Perfection Gel in Luminous to smooth pores and unevenness of skin tone between dermatology treatments.

For me to use, repurchase and recommend a product, it has to be the best of its kind that I've tried. No room for mediocrity.

New Aveda candle in Shampure.

I was looking for my favorite, Rainforest, but the local Aveda store has been sold out of it for a while.

The only luxury department store in town sells a brand of candles called Nest. Some smell great but I don't care for the fancy packaging. I wish I could remember the candle that Vidal Sassoon in Miami always had burning in the salon's lounge; the scent was sublime.

I've heard Diptyque is lovely. I'll look when I'm in Houston or San Antonio.

A favorite sunscreen line, Vichy Capital Soleil, bought at Pharmaprix in Montreal.

I first discovered the brand during a girls' trip to St. Barth, in which I purchased SPF 100, for laughs. (My friends joked that I was the palest person in the Caribbean.)

Nails are Chanel "Steel".

Like my beloved Chanel No. 19 EDP 1.7 oz, Vichy 45 SPF is not readily available in the US, although I have seen 30 SPF and 60 SPF online.

MONTREAL: PART 3

Montreal is a walking city, so of course I was in my element. I spent an afternoon along Rue Saint-Catherine with K and Winnie (on the grass below). We stopped at Christ Church Cathedral to have a look. This beautiful church was completed in 1859.

Then, tea time.

Winnie comes out of hiding while K and I sip our green tea.

A year ago, I learned of this boutique when Stephanie at Grey wrote about it on her blog. I decided if I was ever in Montreal, I'd have to visit. And so I did.

I didn't have time to look at or try on much the day I went in- much less take photos- but I was on a mission anyway, searching for specific items. (I'd hoped to shop again before I left Montreal but didn't get a chance.) I was disappointed to learn that Reborn no longer carries Complex Geometries but they did have the Rick Owens DRKSHDW skort I've been wanting: I snapped it up and left a happy customer.

MONTREAL: PART 2 (Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal)

Basilique Notre-Dame is a Gothic Revival church in Old Montreal. The main construction was completed between 1824 and 1829.

Basilique Notre-Dame was breathtaking! I was moved to tears, it was so exquisite. I think the photos speak for themselves.

I'm back from a magical week in Old Montreal. Amazing architecture, beautiful people, great friends and perfect summer weather...and oh, the food!

After Mr. Odyssey, Doxy and I left Charleston, we paid a visit to my aunt and uncle who've retired to the mountains of North Carolina. These are scenes from that trip- our day in Asheville, and a visit to Dellinger's Grist Mill near their house (where grits are made!)

Our relocation from Charleston, South Carolina to the Texas Coastal Bend went smoothly. My husband and I were able to visit family along the way- North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama- since we probably won't be in the Southeast for a while. I never imagined we'd end up in south Texas again. We didn't want to leave Charleston but sometimes work life throws an unexpected curve. Life in Charleston is very much a part of our long-range plans, and it will surely be sweeter next time around. For now, we have other things to accomplish. Our Texas adventure has begun.

This will be my last, and wordiest, post of March. Reason? We are moving...yes, again. Mr. Odyssey has accepted a great new job but it's in south Texas and we must move. We are sad to leave Charleston rather unexpectedly and so soon after arriving, but excited about new adventures. Because we love Charleston and arrived with dreams and intentions, we will return to live here as soon as possible. In the meantime, there are other things to be accomplished first. Charleston will remain the amazing place we have grown to cherish. It will be here to welcome us when we come home.

Julia (Song of the Exile blog) and I had a chance to meet up again before she left for home. We had a delicious brunch at 82 Queen:
Eggs Benedict with fried green tomatoes and grits (Julia)
Fried Green Tomatoes with lump crab, boursin cheese, grits and red pepper coulis (me).
The weather was glorious- a sunny 55 degrees.

So perfectly suitable, she may as well have been born with them. Even her dress has a Chevron pattern similar to the feathers. I wonder if she planned it that way...

Julia (Song of the Exile blog) was in town last week and we decided to meet for coffee and conversation. Julia is even more beautiful in person, as well as gracious and engaging- she's southern, after all.
